Playing the bulk of the second half without star big man Koby Butler, the Emery Spartans came from behind to beat a scrappy Carbon team 54-48 on Saturday night.

Four Spartans scored in double figures, led by Bowdie Jacobson and twins Koby and Kolton Butler who all scored 12 in the game. Zac Jorgensen hit two threes en route to 10 points. Koby Butler scored 11 of his 12 points in the first half before fouling out late in the fourth quarter. Koby Butler sat out for much of the third and fourth quarters after picking up his fourth foul just minutes into the third.

For Carbon, Kyle Quinton scored in double figures for the seventh straight game with 12 points. Jamin Jensen had eight points and Chase Morgan and Derek Hillam each chipped in seven.

The Dinos didn’t trail in the game until Emery sophomore Kyson Stilson nailed a three midway through the third for the 26-25 lead. Carbon’s Derek Hillam answered with back-to-back buckets to reclaim the lead. Kolton Butler then scored nine of Emery’s next 12 points during a Spartan 18-6 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to lead 44-37 with four minutes remaining in the game.

Quinton scored four straight for Carbon to get the Dinos within three, 44-41, but Jacobson then scored the next five for Emery to help his team to the win, keeping the Spartans’ perfect record intact.

Emery (8-0, 0-0 Region 15) snapped Carbon’s (4-5, 0-0 Region 12) three-game winning streak. The two teams will play again on Jan. 7 in Price. The Spartans will next play on Wednesday at home versus Union. The Dinos will host Spanish Fork on the same night.
