Worker’s Compensation Insurance Foreman Doug Olsen presented Emery County with a TAP Award at the Emery County Commission meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
The award gives a discount of 1.5% on insurance and multiplies for three years if requirements continue to be met, at which time it reaches the maximum discount. Special recognition was given to Mary Huntington and commissioners for their support to the personnel department.
The meeting began with a motion to open a public hearing to receive input on the issuance of Castle Valley Special Service District general obligation bonds. There was no public comment so the hearing closed. The final bond resolution language was approved. This authorizes up to $900,000 in bonds to be used for sewage, water, curbs and gutters, drainage and storm facilities, roads and sidewalks, bridges and viaducts and related matters.
Two agreements for the Emery County Fair entertainment were also approved: Live a Little Productions ($3,200) and Clive Romney ($250). Live a Little will provide an ATV rodeo and monster truck. Romney will perform musical storytelling.
After altering the language of the interlocal agreement with the Southeast Utah Health Department and assurance that the health department was not advocating the needle exchange program, approval was given to sign the agreement. A right-of-way for a borrow pit adjacent to the Price River Road in Emery County was also approved. County board members including EMT’s, Special Service District board members and Search and Rescue members were approved for a discount at the Aquatic Center. This was a thank you for service from the county.
A request for proposal (RFP) hiring was also approved to help decide if entities bidding for county tax abatement or financial assistance are advantageous or detrimental for the county.
Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk reported the office’s plans to patrol the desert 24-7 on Easter weekend. He noted that overtimes will be reimbursed by the BLM. Aquatic Center Manager Shannon Hyatt, noted that swim lessons are now open and that sign-ups are happening fast. There are 300 spots left and 152 have already been taken. Commissioner Keith Brady commented how successful the Rocket Launch had been in Green River. Commissioner Paul Cowley reported the highlights of the Emery County Public Lands Council meeting.
