Emery’s homecoming spirits were dampened under the Friday night lights as visiting Union took a runaway win, 42-7, from the Spartans.

The Spartans got on the board first thanks to a 10-yard run by Jaymes Bowman at the 4:27 mark in the first. Brock Winter earned the extra point for Emery, the last the team would score in the game.

Going into the second with a 7-0 lead, Union responded with 14-0 run to take control of the game going into the half. An explosive third quarter, in which the Cougars added 21 more points, deflated the Spartans. Union went on to add seven more in the final quarter to cap off the victory.

Union’s Nate Foote led the Cougars with two touchdowns.

Next up, Emery (1-7, 1-3 3A North) will finish off 3A North play against #2 Grantsville (7-1, 3-1 3A North) on Friday, Oct. 12. The Spartans will host in Castle Dale with a 7 p.m. kickoff. The game will be streamed live online at www.etv10news.com/livesports.
