Emery County Sheriff’s Office Press Release

UPDATE 1:50 P.M. Aug 24: The fire crew completed a line around the fire and declared it contained. They remain on scene today strengthening the line and working on hot spots. Two helicopters are still assigned to the fire. It is anticipated that mop-up will be complete this evening, but the fire crew will stay through the night. Rocky Mountain Power is hoping to re-engergize the power line tomorrow after an aerial inspection. The fire was contained to Forest Service lands and no structures were damaged.

UPDATE 1:20 P.M. Aug 23: A 20-man fire crew is on scene with gear to stay all night. The crew is committed to spending 2 days on the fire and additional crews will be brought in if necessary. They are working on building a line around the fire. There are 2 helicopters assigned to the fire, each with a 120 gal bucket. The fire is burning under a power line, but the poles are not compromised at this time. One issue is burning logs rolling down the steep slope into dry fuels. We will post updates as we receive them.
