USU Eastern Press Release

A patriotic holiday concert honoring veterans will be held at Utah State University Eastern’s Jennifer Leavitt Student Center’s multipurpose room on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. Thirteen students will perform a selection of songs directed by Kay Fox, music instructor, for what promises to be a night of music and celebration.

As the songs recount the history of our country, narrator Chris Palo, a veteran who spent the last nine years fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, will explain the symbolism behind the verses. With this year marking the 200th anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner, the concert will focus on the historic value of our beloved national anthem.

Fox hopes the concert will honor veterans while stirring up patriotism in the community. The students have been practicing for the concert and are excited to share this message.

“We want to evoke emotions of patriotism and love for our country,” said Fox.

Among the songs featured will be America the Beautiful, God Bless the USA, Deep River and a special medley of traditional American songs. Derek Quinton and Shanae Chevalier will both have solos.

The concert is free and open to the public.
