Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams from USU Eastern posted another win over Colorado Northwestern on Saturday at home. The Lady Eagles jumped out quick and never looked back as they easily beat the Spartans 91-76. The men followed suit, where they came out on top 81-63.

In the early game, the Lady Eagles opened up a lead, hitting eight shots from downtown before the first half was over. They found the long shot not as easy on the second period with only three more the rest of the contest.

“We ended the first half with eight threes and only finished the game with 11.” said Coach Dave Paur after the game. “I am not happy about that.”

Despite trouble with the outside shot, the team continued to push the lead as the afternoon wore on and easily cruised to another conference win. The women are 13-14 overall and 6-7 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC), putting them in fourth place.

Maddy Murphey came off the bench to post 18 points and Shanava Strebel had a double double with 10 points and 10 boards.

The men took the floor after the women and struggled with fouls in the first half. CNCC was able to keep things close with their trips to the line, shooting 11-18. Eastern was only given only four shots from the charity stripe. The game evened out in the second half of play, with both teams taking 18 shots from the stripe.

Kendahl Walker led the way with 20 points, followed by Naifis Walker at 16 and Trahmier Burrell with 15. Todd Helgesen pulled in 11 rebounds.

Eastern Men are 19-8 on the season and 6-7 in SWAC action, sitting in the third spot.
