The Utah State University – College of Eastern Utah basketball team dominated Colorado Northwestern Friday at the BDAC in Price.

While USU Eastern shot relatively poorly throughout the game, the Golden Eagles’ defense stepped up and held CNCC to just 39-percent shooting throughout the game.

Interim Head Coach Brian Edlestien said he was pleased with his team’s overall defense.

“Defensively we did what we needed to do to win,” Edlestien said. “This is going to be a team that in order for us to win the league title, which is our goal, we’re going to have to be really good defensively.”

Edlestien said the team would work on transition defense and rebounding in practice, and that work would ultimately translate into more dominant defensive performances.

Despite a 76-point output and a 6-for-11 three-point shooting night from freshman McKay LaSalle, Edlestien said he was disappointed with the offensive performance.

“We didn’t shoot the ball well, especially in the first half,” Edlestien said. “You’ve got to take better shots on the road if you want to be able to win in this league. You can kind of get away with it at home, but on the road you’ve got to take really good shots to win.”

The Golden Eagles improved to 11-2 on the season and 1-0 in SWAC play.

The game was broadcast live on ETV Channel 10. Replays of the game will be rebroadcast throughout the coming weeks.
