*UPDATE* USU Eastern Issues Code Blue Alert After Forced Burglary Occurs

Utah State University Eastern issued a code blue alert Thursday evening after a forced entry burglary occurred in one of the student housing dorms.

According to an email sent to students, faculty and staff, the crime occurred between 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Thursday. Some of the items that were taken included computer equipment, textbooks and clothing.

USU Eastern Police are seeking the public’s help to try and solve the crime. Anyone who has any information about this crime or sees any suspicious activity on or off campus is encouraged report it by calling dispatch at (435) 637-0890. In case of an emergency, individuals are to dial 911.

The email also stated that it is never possible to fully eliminate the risk of being a target of a crime. However, risk-reduction strategies and suggestions were listed and they are as follows:

  • Keep all belongings secured and lock your doors
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Trust your instincts and call law enforcement if you are concerned for your safety

Update:

USU Eastern sent out another email around 11:30 a.m. Friday morning in regards to the same incident.

The email stated that the items that were thought to be stolen were later located. It was then determined that a crime did not take place.
