On Friday, the Lady Eagles hosted a conference match against CSI and ultimately fell short, losing the match 3-0.

USU Eastern played the CSI Golden Eagles close all evening, falling by only two points in an exciting first match, 26-24. CSI took control of the second match and handed the Eagles another loss, 25-11. The third match was much like the first, trading points and momentum. USU Eastern fell short in the last match 25-22.

Koralys Gonzalez led the Eagles defensively with 10 digs, followed closely by Melissa Judd with eight, while Michaella Cooks paced the Eagles block with one solo and five block assists on the evening. Judd led the USU Eastern offense, posting five kills. Jasmine Covington and Carly Dalton tallied five kills a piece.

The loss on Friday did not seem to phase the USU Eastern volleyball as they went into another conference match on Saturday against North Idaho College. The Eagles downed the NIC Cardinals in exciting fashion on their home court, earning a 3-1 conference win (25-19, 26-24, 25-22 and 25-21).

Judd recorded a double-double on the night, leading the Eagles offensively with 17 kills and 12 digs. Judd was followed by Carly Dalton and Whitney Riffle, who recorded 13 and 10 digs, respectively. Mckenzie Burrows led the offense with 30 assists along with three kills and eight digs.

The Eagle’s defense was led by Gonzalez, who tallied 29 digs on the night.

Saturday’s win advances USU Eastern to 8-13 on the season and 2-5 in conference. The Lady Eagles look to gain another conference win as they travel to Colorado Northwestern Community College on Oct. 25.
