Utah State Eastern volleyball head coach Danielle Jensen hosted prospective student-athletes on Friday for the team’s annual fall showcase.
Jensen and her assistant coach, Stacy Mortensen, along with current Utah State Eastern volleyball players welcomed over 15 high school seniors to the event. The showcase was a way for the coaches to instruct and evaluate the players for recruiting purposes.
According to Jensen, last week’s showcase was a big success.
“I felt like the showcase was another big success for our program. We were able to bring in quite a few girls to look at the college and our program. We found a few girls that will compliment our program well for next season,” said Jensen.
Jensen said showcases are a big part of her recruiting efforts since taking over the program last July. Last year’s showcase resulted in four scholarships being awarded.
“The showcases have been huge for our program. It gives athletes, from sophomores in high school to seniors, an opportunity to get a feel for our program first hand,” said Jensen.
Not only did Jensen introduce her program, she also gave the players and their parents a glimpse of what going to Utah State Eastern is all about.
“The showcase also gets our name out there and allows athletes that aren’t familiar with our college or program to come and see what we are all about here,” she said.
After this year’s showcase, Jensen said that her team is almost complete as far as recruiting but still have a few spots left. She also said that she will hold a showcase each November following the season and will be hosting camps this upcoming summer, including a skills clinic and team camp.
Jensen and the Eagles wrapped up their successful 2017 season earlier this month after losing in the Region XVIII Tournament semifinals to eventual national runner-up College of Southern Idaho. Utah State Eastern volleyball went 18-10 overall this season and were ranked nationally almost every week of the regular season.
