Utah State Eastern men’s basketball player Rafael Monteiro signed with Augusta University on Thursday to continue his collegiate career.
Monteiro led the Eagles in scoring and rebounding in 2017-2018 with 14.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
“I am very proud of Rafael because he worked so hard this year. He went from a D-III his freshman year to a junior college and now can go to a place where he can show off his talent,” said USU Eastern head coach Vando Becheli.
The Sao Paulo, Brazil native capped off his lone season with USU Eastern with being named first team All-Region XVIII. Monteiro graduated with USU Eastern last month with honors as well for his hard work in the classroom.
“He is a great student and I think he will do a great job representing USU Eastern on and off the court,” said Becheli.
Augusta University plays in the Peach Belt Conference and plays at the NCAA Division II level.
