Maya Anderson from Carbon High has been a Utah Beef Ambassador since March. The 17-year-old senior from Elmo is now working on achieving a scholarship through the Utah Beef Ambassador Program.

Anderson became an ambassador for Utah beef in March after competing in an event at the annual Future Farmers of America competition in Logan. The competition consisted of media interview, consumer education and a newspaper response. Those with the top three scores became ambassadors, including Anderson.

As a Utah Beef Ambassador it is my job to talk about beef and to promote it,” Anderson explained. “Throughout the year, I will attend a series of activities or public events such as the Carbon County Fair and the State Fair.”

Currently, Anderson is attempting to obtain a general scholarship to Utah State University. Requirements for the scholarship include a media interview, consumer demonstration and youth demonstration. On Wednesday, Anderson conducted a demonstration at Castle Heights. She will later do a food demonstration at the Utah State Fair as part of the process for applying for the scholarship.
