A veterans’ memorial monument was unveiled at a special program in Ferron on Friday evening. The monument has the names of 552 veterans from Ferron City and Clawson Town. The monument stands in the Mayor’s Park on Main Street in Ferron.

The program began with Post 42 of the American Legion posting the colors with a flag that was in Afghanistan in 2004.

Post commander Clifford Snow was the host of the program. He expressed thanks to the many who helped to accomplish the task of retrieving the names, doing the concrete work and completing the monument. He introduced guest speakers Kent Peterson, Michael Mower, who represented Governor Gary Herbert, Gordon Ewell, as well mayors Adele Justice and Gary Price.  Musical numbers were presented by Katie Ditto, who sang the Veteran’s Anthems, and Sarah Swasey. Swasey’s song was an Irish WWI ballad popularly known as “Willie McBride.”

The monument was created by Michaelangelo Monuments and deemed a masterpiece. The two mayors presented the unveiling to the crowd’s delight.
