Habitat for Humanity’s home repair assistance program, A Brush With Kindness (ABWK), had a recent project that drew the attention of USU Eastern group GEAR UP.

On Wednesday ABWK representatives met with USU Eastern students at a lot in Price, where they started to dig up trees, rake, pull weeds and other similar chores. The goal is to get the lot ready to build a house for a local citizen in need.

A total of 30 volunteers were on site, working tirelessly to clear the recently-purchased area. This lot will be a future Habitat Home in Price. Executive Director Karen Basso was also in attendance to welcome volunteers. Refreshments were served to keep the volunteers well fueled.

According to https://usueastern.edu/price/gearup/about/index, the GEAR UP program is a federally funded grant program whose goal is to increase college awareness for low-income students and their families. It also helps students develop the skills and preparation necessary to pursue education after high school. GEAR UP works collaboratively with schools, parents and community organizations to help students build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to prepare for college.

Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country would like to sincerely thank USU Eastern’s GEAR UP program for its help.

“It is exciting to see some work being done on the property with so many willing to help us,” stated a Habitat for Humanity representative.
