City Council Members learned Tuesday that East Carbon City recently received notification that West Ridge Mine plans to terminate the reservoir relocation project.

Councilman David Avery said miners hit rocks in the coal panel, which would make continuing with the project unfeasible.В  West Ridge previously planned to pay a portion of the relocation costs.

Mine officials plan to send an official notification letter.

In other water related news, Jay Mashburn provided more information on water-rate increases.

Plans include an immediate rate hikes as well as gradual rate increases over a five-year period. Council members decided to include a lifeline plan for citizens with fixed incomes.

A public comment period designed to further explain the plans would be featured at the next council meeting.
